Default Popping/Binding in 4wd

Im getting a popping/binding up in the front end when if 4wd. I checked the cv there are no cuts or rips in the boot and they look fine. It is fine in 2wd only when put under load it pops or binds. Has anyone had this problem or know what it could be??

if it is binding when you make a turn on dry pavement in 4wd it is normal, just the way that 4wd works

+1 take it into some grass or anywhere offroad and try it. I wouldn't run it in 4x4 on dry pavement either..

Which transfer case? The 242 awd setting doesn't bind but the regular 4hi does, the 241 only has a 4hi setting, both have 4lo.

Adukart is correct, AWD and 4 wheel drive are completely different.

Ok so it is the 241, but that is peculiar. It really sounds like the cv's if it is doing it in a straight line. Or have you checked the front u-joints? If they are shot and binding up when the transfer case is engaged it could make a racket.

Just because the boots on the cv look fone doesnt mean it is. Try and wiggle it around a little by hand. It shouldn't move. If it does then there's your problem.
