Greetings to all, I am a newby and my nickname is Leebar. My wife and I own two Dodge Durangos, 2000 Sport 4 WD and a 2002 Sport 4 WD which both are 4.7 and over 170K miles. I am in my fiftys and enjoy beach fishing and kayaking. Several issues have come up during our ownership and I may be able to share some insight on problems encountered. However, there are problems that I may require a helping hand from one of you out there in Dodge cyberspace which I do have a current problem if anyone is willing to share ideas on.

Default Durango front axel area noise

Glad to join the dark side, My recent problems exist on the "02 Durango which has a scraping / clicking noise around the center of vehicle in the fire wall area. The noise began during 4 WD on the beach after driving through a lot of water. The next day the noise was gone. The CV joint boots are in good condition and was thinking maybe the front universal joints might be bad since driving through water was involved. Any ideas?
Thank you, Leebar.

Have you check the fluids in the diff's? And do you still have the noise?

Yes, I changed all fluids in front, rear dif and the transfer case. All gears in the dif looked good.

Check the main drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential.

Thank you for all of the replies. Initially, I do not notice any extra movement and will throughly check out the universal joints on the front drive shaft upon returning home. I will let you know of my findings.
