Question Air Conditioning Problems :-(

I bought my Durango in December 2011. Tested the A/C out and it worked then, and continued to work fine (when I used it) up until today - and of course it's 90 degrees out in Denver today. It's a 2002 SLT Plus with the 5.9 V8. It's at about 130k miles.

Anyway, when I turn on the A/C, it blows a little bit of air (still cold air), but then stops blowing all together. It sounds like some kind of loud fan comes on when I turn the A/C on. I'm a girl and don't quite know how to describe what's happening other than what I already said.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Could just need a recharge.
If your not up to it, just take it to a shop you trust and have them test and recharge it.
Shouldn't be to much.

Wouldn't it still blow air if it needed a recharge? It's not getting hardly (if any) air pressure from the vents into the cabin.

Yes. You may need a new resistor. It's a common fail point with Durangos.

What is a resistor and how easy is it to change out?

I just looked the part up. How do I know if it's the front one or the rear one that needs to be replaced?

If you search this site for "blower resistor" you'll find lots of posts about them. They at not super difficult to change if you are somewhat "handy."
Before we jump to that, does it blow with the heat on?

I'll go turn it on and check. It will take me a couple minutes. Have to find my keys.
