7-25 @ 5pm Central

I took out my drivers rear speaker to see what it was all about, and sure enough its only the foam surround. Either way, i'll be getting new speakers. Will any 6.5" component work okay? does it matter if I get a 300W speaker to replace these with, knowing that our head units don't put that kind of power out, or will it sound like s**t?

Please be patient with me as I want to make sure I have a game plan. I really appreciate the help so far guys!

Thanks.
On an infinity system, you have true components on front doors ONLY. Tweeter and Woofer are separate from each other. Rear doors, the tweeter is mounted on the speaker, thus, call it a two way speaker. Total speakers: 8.

If you go component in the rear, where are you going to mount the tweeters? you'll have to drill a hole somewhere on the door to mount the tweeters if you want true component setup.

Otherwise, stick with the Infinity Reference speakers from Ebay for $20 a pop. They are two way speakers. These speakers will sound extremely well for every day listening.

I have 6012's on mine. Replace the component woofer on front for 6012 two way. So I have two tweeters and one woofer on front door. Back doors, the 6012 are two way speakers.

You can look at my photos on my profile as I took some pictures of the 6012's mounted behind the door speaker grille.

I just happen to have a rear speaker sitting in front of me, and it looks like a component speaker. I already have a tweeter mounted on the door on both front and rear. I can get pictures posted if you'd like.

What is the difference between a component, and a mid-bass driven speaker?

Are those pics the back door? First time I seen a compoent setup for the back doors. I guess it is because of your Durango being a 2001. 2001 has a redesigned interior so I guess the infinity system is truly component for the 2nd generation interiors.

Either way, as I said, you can either rebuild your factory component speaker by going to simplyspeakers.com and buy replacement surround foam (polyutheane now) and keep factory components. Or replace them with the 2 way 6032CF's. So in essence, you will have a total of 12 speakers front/rear where I only have 10 on my 1st generation interior. My rear doors does not have component speakers.

Component are truly set up for specific range. I can be low, high, mid range. All to accomodate the rest of the component speakers. Think of it as a full concert. Everyone playing a different instrument to give the full range sound from low to high. Each component speaker gets its own circuit path and individual signal filtering. Tweeters will have filters to block out all the low to mid range signals. Bass driver filters will filter anything above bass signals. etc..

The mid-bass speaker is usually just as it is said. mid range. problaby combine with tweeter. These are multi way speakers coming from the same circuit path with usually no signal filtering except for possibly tweeter.

Correct. This is from the drivers side rear door. I have a 2001 Durango SLT w/ Infinity 8 speaker system.

So they are just a component speaker, not a mid-bass or a two way.

they are not a 2 way speaker, afaik they are what is usually referred to as a mid range speaker but dont hold me to that because audio is not my strong suit
