the switch is just a normally open momentary switch, short the leads in the lever togethe with a paperclip or something similar and see if od cycles that way, if it does you just need a new switch

I grounded my button leads like u said and my overdrve is still off i even disconnected the overdive connections under the steering wheel and grounded the orange/white with the black wire , i cant seem to turn it on my next step is to test for open or shortage somewhere along the circut, any one on here that has encountered similar problems with the o/d indacator control or o/d off request, please help! Your help will be greatly appreciated.

download the FSM for the 98 durango and find out where the OD off pins end up (probably at the pcm, but possibly the ctm) and see check for continuity and short them together at the controller and see what happens

The Haynes manuals i like to cal the "Idiots guide" (Not saying you are one) they provide the very basic info about the vehicle its enough to get you threw some general repairs but not enough to get you in major trouble..

The FSM's go way more in detail about anything you could ever think of about your rig and are used by the techs at the dealers ... hence why its called a factory service manual.. I have used mine time and time over for things i could not find a peep about other than "take it to the dealer" in the Haynes manual.

Check your tps, I accidentally had mine unplugged and the overdrive wouldn't work. Not saying its unplugged, that would trip a CEL code but maybe try a new one.
