Question '03 4X4 1st transmission question & post

Forum folks:
Re:'03 Durango It has diagnosed Transmission probs. Im researching what best to do. I've been told the repair is $2200-3000. Eagle did not specify what they planned:Repair,Rebuild,Replace.
It has 74 K; I had more probs w/ the transmission after the transmission maintenance in Dec. '12. It had hesitated to go into drive on start-up, now it flare-shifts after that, and later it seems to just need a lot of RPMs before it moves from 2nd to 3rd.
A friend thought it had to do w/ the over drive.
I'm a non mechanical person. This is first major problem in 10 years.

I do not know how to do forums, so I hope I get some direction in spite of my newness at posting .
Sincerely -- willowbee, Austin, TX

well there were 2 transmissions available in that year depending on which engine you had, so if you tell us which engine you have we can figure out which trans, smokinjoe02 has a good series of follow up questions however only the 4.7 has 2 trans filters, if you have the 5.9 there is only 1

Thanks SomkinJoe -- Yes the CEL is o. Sun Auto did the transmission maintenance. I will need to ask what fluid and how many filters. I understand from another forum respondent that my SUV (4.7 l) takes two filters.
I feel discouraged about how to go about handling this whole problem. Ive restricted much of my driving to buy myself more time.
Thank you for helping me become more educated before I take any action -- willow

Thanks Conservative? New Jersey guy with a job: The SUV is a 4.7 engine. I apologize for the weird quote thing at the end of this thread. I have no idea how it got here or how to remove it.

Thanks again --willow

Dear Forum: I have the transmission diagnostic codes: PO733 Ratio 3rd,PO732 Ratio 2nd,PO1790 Fault after shift, P869 line press., P935 line press., P932 line press., PO734 gear ratio in 4th, LR 89,2C 76, 4C 65,OD 93, OD 61 ( CODES AFTER LR 89 MIGHT BE "HC & DD" not 4C & OD THE COPY WAS CUT OFF ON THE EDGE). I rec'd the codes from Eagle Transmission, Manchaca Rd., Austin, TX. They said prob. inside trans. and est $2200-3K

I would remove the transmission pan and inspect the valve body side plate. This a common problem with the 45RFE or 545RFE transmission. There is a kit to replace the broken plate, if that is the problem.

Dear Master Tech: wld the possible pan prob that you mention cause all the transmission error codes that the veh. has ( I noted them after the first post )? And is this pan issue something a mechanic on his own cld fix? I ask cause Im trying to find the best path to fixing this transmission . If I can get the help of a competent single tech or do I need to take the veh in to a big garage, like Amco, Egal etc? Sincerely -- Willow

Question '03 Durango 4.7 transmission needs big time attention!

I've started asking how to handle this problem and a few of you have given me input. The more I learn the more I want to ask -- Sorry.

If I do have to take my veh. to a big dealer/transmission garage, is there a best way to lay out the request for the fix? I'm not car savvy, and realize if they know that they cld, if they do that sort of thing, tack on a couple hundred dollars to the solution. Especially if they approach it with the long-way-around perspective. (I'm not a dumb blond, but I cld be mistaken for one).

Maybe there is nothing really wise I CAN do--- Maybe I just have to start finding the 3 thousand dollars-plus-tax the transmission place estimated it would cost.

If you can help direct me on this I will truly appreciate your assistance.

Don't worry, We are here to help everybody. The more you ask the more you and i will learn. If the plate is broken, it will cause the codes you are getting. And if the plate is broken, the kit is less than 100.00 dollars. And it is easy to replace. But you need to remove the transmission and inspect.
