Default Transmission Information

I have searched all over and could not find the answer. How do I identify what tranny I have based off the transmission itself? My build sheet says I have the 360/46re combo but the guy I bought it from swapped motors so I don't know if he swapped the transmission too. I am almost positive that he put a 5.2 in it, not sure why. During the process of motor swapping he did not put the transmission dust cover back on and I need to know which transmission to order it for

After more extensive searching, I compared diagrams of the oil pans for each transmission, and it looks like mine matches up to pictures of the 46 RE. So I am pretty sure I have the 5.2 matched up to the 46RE. Apparently it is possible, but it could also be the casue of some of my rough shifting, maybe? Any further clarification or input would still be appreciated

there should be some numbers stamped on the drivers side of the tranny, just above the oil pan. not sure where to cross reference the numbers at tho. mabe at the dealer or auto part store.
but i do beleive that 46re will bolt to the 318 and 360 mags. but not so sure about the fly wheel and torq converter.

If the transmission pan is square, then thats a 42/44 RE. And if the pan is square with a hump in the cornner, then thats a 46 thru 48RE transmission.

I'm not trying to high jack this thread but while were on this issue. Where is the plackard on the tranny that tells you what type it is? Cuz I looked at my tranny pan and it is square with a step sticking out towards the passenger side. Does that mean my tranny is a 46/48re ? If so I have the wrong filter on it. As well as the wrong gov pressure solenoid. And I also have the 5.2 46re combo.

From my research and input from mastertech thats what it looks like, the 46re pan has the outward hump, as to what side its on I dont remember. From pics online the 44RE seemed to almost have an inward hump, vs outward. And if you do in fact have to 5.2/46RE combo, then something has been swapped out, which in my case I already knew to be true.

When I bought the d the guy told me that prior to him buying it his brother did an engine swap. But he told me that it used to have a 318 and he swapped in a 360. But it has the 318. So I'm thinking that it used to have a 360 and the 46re and the engine blew so they just dropped in a 318 cuz it was cheaper. I need to check out my pcm to see if its for 360 if so then I need to get it re flashed. But still where is the identification plate on the tranny.
