i swapped the transmission on my 98 durango 5.2 from a junkyard transmission and finally was able to put it on yesterday. but am having a problem when i shift to reverse the engine dies out. has anyone have had this problem?
Does it idle slightly rough? I just rebuilt and re installed mine and had a similar issue and found that the crankshaft position sensor got slightly nicked my the flex plate. How the flex plate got bent is beyond me but, since it pretty easy to get to the CPS with the right wheel and the wheel well removed i would pull it out and inspect it.. if it shows signs of damage then i would pull the flywheel cover off and inspect the flex plate...
If that does not do it then there is either maybe a loose wire or a bad sensor.. or i am afraid i would have to say there is a internal issue with the trans you just swapped.
Just a thought... the transmission guru around here is Master Tech. hopefully he will chime in here or you could PM him.
I accidentally pinched the wires on mine between the block and bell housing the one time I had my transmission off to change the freeze plugs, and that killed it.
you were right Old_School it was the CPS, but now im having another problem it feels loss of power when i put i in d it won't move on its own i have to press the gas pedal a little harder. also it won't shift like if its in a higher gear?
