4.7 175,000 miles, which oil yous recommend? i also have ticking sound on 1st start of the day for about 15 sec , last time i did oil change i put on fram filter and I've been told 4.7 do not like fram filters, i bough mopar filter and i just need oil recommendation.
I use Mobil 1 5-30 full synthetic. Hard to pass up when they have a case on sale at Costco for $4.50/quart. The oil debate is one that will be going on forever, it's all personal preference.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that the first umber is like an initial start playing viscosity, and the second number is like an operating temp viscosity. Therefore, a 5-30 will be better if your running in colder tempo, and 10-30 if you never drop below say 30-40 degrees but have hot summers. 5-30 I think is generally the preferred all around weight but it depends on your weather
I have a 5.9 so I am to run 10W-30 unless outside situations as said fall into another range. Go by what the manual says. It should give you what weight you need based on climate. If it says 5w-30 run it. If it says 10w-30 run that. That being said choose whatever brand you are comfortable with. My only suggestion would be pick one you like and stick with it. Don't be the guy who runs whatever is on sale, changing brand to brand to brand.
I use 5w30 all year round. gunna change to 5w30 synthetic this winter tho. This should help you decide. Dig through this website a little and read. He breaks down a lot of things about oil
