Tweeters on the door will say “Infinity”.. actually tweeters on the top of the door = infinity.

Also remove pass side interior panel (where your right foot would rest) and the infinity amp is bolted on the side behind the plastic mold.

I upgraded my speakers to infinity Kappa 60.9CS speakers ($150 new at buy.com) and they sound good. I did the infinity bypass mod and they sounded horrible. This was when backed by the aftermarket kenwood unit.

Anyway.. I still use the factory amp with my aftermarket head unit and speakers.

The Infinity system used 2ohm speakers that were hard to find replacements. I found out the hard way when you buy 4 ohm and use them with that amp they sound ok, but no volume as the resistance is too high for that amp to push loudly. If you are using the stock amp Infinity 6032 are decent 2 ohm replacements for around $60 a pair.

IIRC, only the SLT's had the infinity package. Maybe the RT's too. You can get a Bazooka bass tube if you are worried about space.

If you replace the speakers, DO NOT USE SHALLOW SPEAKERS if you do not want to lose any bass response. if you look in the DIY thread, there are some posts about the speaker installation for our durangos. A company sells a special bracket to mount after market speakers to the OEM spacer that bolts on to the door so you can have that better bass response.

The reason for shallow speakers if you remove the speaker spacer, you will see the shaft from the window assembly that would be directly in the way of a normal speaker.

I don't think I've ever heard a durangos after market sound system sound better than stock. Honestly if I had the time and motivation I would find OEM replacement speakers and run those over the kappa speakers. Heck if you found the speakers and did the labor I'd let you take my kappas.

I put maybe 2k miles on my truck this year so its not a pressing issue for me anymore..

Anywho, I had an infinity bass link installed in my bronco. Sounded good.

I've got the SLT, which came with the Infinity system installed, but I had some issues with one of the speakers (rear driver side) and ended up replacing the whole system with a complete BOSE system. I just grabbed speakers that were the same size, upgraded my amp, and built a box to stow behind my 3rd row. New head unit as well. She sounds about the same unfortunately... except for the bass. The bass in the BOSE speakers feels like a back massage sometimes.

I'd say if you don't have the Infinity system, try to get one. The amp is great too. If you don't have experience doing this, I'd talk to someone who does. I know many people who wrecked a perfectly good system trying to install an amp in college.

Hmm.... I was thinking about getting the newer speakers down the road figuring they'd be an upgrade, but I guess not
