So this sound isn't normal? I am just try to figure it out. I am planning on doing a oil and oil filter change this weekend after I get my paycheck. It just hard to track down the noise because I wear hearing aids so it is hard to find the noise by the motor.

I don't know much about the 4.7 so I can't really comment on what is and isn't normal, but is the correct oil (5w30 if I remember correctly) being used?

I am thinking about picking up Castrol GTX High Mileage 5W30 Motor Oil, STP High Mileage Oil Treatment, and FRAM High Mileage Oil Filter. I am going with 5W30 in the winter then spring to fall I am going with 10W30.

I'm fairly sure you need to use 5w30 all year round in the 4.7

10w30 has a higher viscosity when cold than 5w30 (that's what the 10 and the 5 stand for), and since the 4.7 does have pretty small oil passages, so it could be causing issues in these colder temperatures if 10w30 is being used instead of 5w30.

I use 10w30.

I also run 185 in my rear axle.

Oil is hardly causing his issues. He's got a loose lifter at least

I might be taking it in later to have the guys look at it since I don't know much about the motor. It might not be cheap but it better to have it done right than guessing the problem and cause more damage. I want to get this ticking noise fix before I have the exhaust shop install straight pipes with 2.25" pipe to the y-pipes with 3" tips.

Have you had strait pipes before? For a majority of people, they are just obnoxiously loud and dont really sound "good". I drove my truck a grand total of 12 miles strait piped while working on my exhaust, and it got old before I got out of my driveway. And mind you, I was 17 at the time. Just a thought, most people don't leave it like that long term.
