Default Front diff is blown...

Found out what the clanging noise was. Blown front diff. Pumpkin is in pieces. Whats the stock ratio for the diff?

3.55 was standard and 3.92 was optional. Best way to determine the ratio for sure is jack up 1 back wheel with the transfer case in neutral, count the number of turns of the wheel for the driveshaft to turn once, then half it.

There should be a tag in the glove compartment that tells and a metal tag on one of the bolts for the cover. The one metal tag will say 3.5=3.55 or 3.9=3.92. Counting the revolutions should be done to confirm what the tag says so that you are sure of your gears in case a previous owner changed it.

Right now im gonna have to be strictly 2wd until i clear everything else for inspection. Here in RI 4wd is doesnt need to be working in order to pass. Once a sticker is on i'm hunting down a transfer case. Which is better the 3.55 or the 3.92? These things interchangable?

The front & rear diff must match ratio if 4wd.

There are different types and yours should be a 194 FIA axel, then match up the gearing.

You will have to remove the driveshaft from the T-case as it is always engaged.

3.92s are a good all around gear and should make a noticeable difference in response time. However, as previously stated, the front differential and rear differential both have to have the same gearing.

I would actually have to replace that too. The shaft is literally just floating there because it's broken at the pinion going into the front differential.

If you need half axle shafts - I have two brand new ones in the box here at my home.

..nevermind, you’re in RI. Best to just order em through rockauto.

Thanks for the offer, man. Probably just gonna see if I can look around for a diff.

Went to the dealership to see what type of differential I got equipped. They managed to look up the vehicle history by VIN#. It was purchased from a dealership brand new in NY....either way, it's a 3.55.

On another note, I went to the dealership primarily for factory lug nuts....$7 each

With that I got requried info and left. I can probably find a better deal online don't really need them that much and the lug nuts I have will do the job for now. Only went because I was going back to the tire place for a retorque after installing two new fronts and getting them aligned.
