towing capabilities
Ok guys, I have a 01 Durango 4X4 that has the bigger 5.9 motor in it. My question is this, I purchased a 25 foot boat the other day and have yet to hook up to her. The boat weighs 5100 pounds dry, not sure about the trailer but I do know the trailer weighs around 1000 pounds, its an aluminum trailer. I had to rebuild my transmission a few years ago. Will my Durango be able to pull that kind of weight behind it ok? Oh yeah, the trailer does have surge brakes installed on it.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

YOu could enter your VIN into this link https://dodgeforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php and it should tell you if you are good to go or not.
I did it for my 03 SXT w/ 4.7L and I got:
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. 2000 lbs (2000.0 min/2000.0max)
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. 200 lbs (200.0 min/200.0max)
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. 5750, 4450 lbs (4450.0 min/5750.0max)
Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt 575, 445 lbs (445.0 min/575.0max)
One other thing to consider was your hitch part of the Tow Package from the factory or aftermarket installed?

I'm not sure of the hitch. All I know is there is one that has the 2 inch receiver on it, and I have the little button on the end of the column shifter that you can turn the overdrive on & off. Does that mean I do have the tow package?
Do you have the trans aux trans cooler? It should be in front of the radiator. I think the trans cooler only came stock with the factory tow package. There is a big difference in tow capacity between the 3.92 and 3.55 axel gearing. Check the build sheet if possible or there is usually a small metal tag the size of a dime held by one of the differential cover bolts with the ratio stamped on it.

There is some sort of a cooler mounted in front of the radiator, pretty sure it is a trans cooler though. When i had to replace the front differential, I thought they put in a 3.55 gear ratio...Don't quote me on this though.
If I get you guys the VIN would that be more helpful?

It is not necessary to post you vin here just use the vin decoder link in the guy aboves post. The cooler your seeing is probably the AC radiator, sorry I forgot to mention that before, it would be in front of that. From what you are saying I am guessing you don't have the optional factory tow package but check the vin to be sure.
