im just gonna assume the crank or cam sensors are bad

 

When you replaced the head gasket, did you replace the timing components? Especially the tone ring on the passenger side head? When my '01 would not start, it drove me NUTS because everything seemed 100% kosher...until I looked at the tone ring on the timing gear...mine came with the timing kit and the new one was VASTLY different from the one I took off. Also when you say the timing is in the "exact spot it was in" when you took it off, did you check to ensure it was in time? If you didn't verify the timing by lining up the timing marks correctly that could be an issue as well. Here is the diagram that I used when timing both my '00 and '01 Durango's with the 4.7L V-8.

Good catch! but no i only replaced my tensioner that it, cam gears are the stock. any other suggestions? cause until i get my crank sensor in im stumped xD

 

Does the tach move when cranking? That might rule out the crank sensor and point at the cam sensor. Also did you get Mopar branded sensors? I know from previous experience, these 4.7's are picky when it comes to crank/cam sensors.

ya the tachometer works, still not throwing any codes does this mean the cam sensor is bad?

 

See if you are getting injector pulse. Should be able to rent noid lights from your local parts store.

 

so as of right now, it is two teeth out of time, which is more than likely the reason why it would not start, i am timing it tonight and ilf it still doesnt start then i would assume injectors however it does smell of gas towards the end of the vehicle after cranking it
