Default $20 comb. flasher VS. $100 Comb flasher unit???

Recently I had an issue with my turn signals working intermittently, They would blink like 1-2 times then stop , I checked bulbs they were fine, The Hazard (4 way) worked fine
I figured since all the bulbs were good it had to be the Combination flasher unit, I read in a search that it was a complicated unit that was non repairable (Not exactly true)
I am curious when I looked up the comb unit at a couple different auto parts dealers there were 2 listed and one was around $20 and the other listed between $90 to $100
(One was Black ($20 unit) and one was Green ($100 unit) if that means anything to anyone on here)
I pulled mine (which was green) out and realized I could easily pop the green cover off the unit and found a bit of contact dust inside so I had a Hunch that maybe the contacts needed a shot of DeoxIT D5 cleaner.
I noticed a bunch of debris being removed so I figured I was on the right track and cleaned the contact and the pivot area and now it seems to work perfectly again.
I do realize it may end up needing to be replaced but was puzzled as to why there were 2 units and why one was so much more then the other one.
I had an Idea of why but wanted to run it by you all as my searches came up empty.
The cheaper one I assume is for the standard Vehicle and the More expensive one is for the vehicles with the optional towing package in order to handle the extra load on the system by having the connector to run trailer lighting does that sound correct?
I thought about this as a reason they when I pulled out my unit and realized it was Green and the numbers matched the Green $100 unit and I have the optional towing package installed on my vehicle it made me think I was probably on the right track here
Ii am going to keep using the one I cleaned for now as I really do not want to spend that much on a flasher unit if I do not have to.
I will periodically update this if I find the current flasher unit starts acting up again and I have to replace it.
and if it keeps on working I will also update as time goes by as well as that could end up saving others money by just spending a few minutes and cleaning the contacts inside the unit.

I still have not figured out what the difference is between the Novita EP 27 Electronic Flasher (black Unit) and the Standard Ignition EFL 17 (Green One) Besides the color and the Price $18.99 for the EP 27 and $100.99 for the EFL 17
The One I thought i fixed worked for about 1 hr then stopped working for the turn signal side yet the hazards still worked fine.
I just came across a bunch of ridiculous youtube videos telling people they have to remove the Instrument bezel and the Headlight switch in order to replace this unit in the 2000 Durango, I just moved the seat all the way back (Drivers) and reached up under the dash by the Parking brake release and removed and replaced min I did it in like 30 seconds while at the auto parts store,
I cannot figure out why the people in the videos thought you needed to go to all the extra work removing those items to R&R the flasher unit

Since I have been unable to find a reason why there are 2 units at such great difference in price I decided to open up the new one and it is Obvious now.
The pictures show exactly why, The green one looks to be extremely HD while the black one to me looks like it is the bare min of what is needed to allow the hazards and turn signals to function.
Though the New (Black one EP27 does state it is LED compatible where it does not state that on the green one.
Not only that but if you look at the bottom pic the Green (EFL17) has an immense amount of electronics in it and HQ Traces as well as solder joints where again the Black (EP27) minimal of both as well as about 1/2 the thickness of the PCB
I would not doubt if the Green one (EFL17) with the Mopar Pentastar thingy is the original unit from the factory. making it 24 years old.
I assume these are what is considered a Hybrid or Electro/Mechanical unit?

The green feller apparently knows a few more tricks than the black one..... I can see what it's not cheap though.

That's for sure, here is a great example of you get what you pay for, I am not expecting the EP27 to last that long to be honest, I could not get in a Picture but the contacts are easily 3X larger on the green one as well.
Now my next project is to figure out what exactly caused the green one to die as I have yet to find anything really wrong with it.
I tried to connect it to the previous location these were located in the fuse panel on left side of drivers dash (even though I see metal connections in that location it does not seemed to be wired) I was hoping they moved it to the new hard to reach location due to the size of the unit and left original spot still connected but no such luck,
That woudl of allowed me to watch it and see exactly how it was failing (or I thought it may, I may build something to allow me to connect it while still being able to monitor it.
I may depends on how much my curiosity starts bugging me .
If I do end up doing anything like this I finally have a way to get it on video, my Neighbor (same ones that gave me this Durango) had a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G phone that had its screen go black and said if I could fix it I could keep it. so I fixed it.

It's an electronic part. They fail over time. How old is the truck?? That green feller is likely the original. So, been in there a while.

You're dealing with over 20 year old electronics. The new unit might have more savvy electronics which is doing more with less. The build up inside of your green unit probably caused a short that affected it, until you cleaned it. I'd just raid a junkyard and pull a bunch of the combo units for spares and call it a day.

@HeyYou The durango will be 24 this year. It also came with the HD service group and the Trailer tow Group options is why I figure it had the Green flasher unit
