Keep or swap...
This motor that I got in here, is it worth messing around putting a rebuilt or a reman trans behind this 318 that's got a quarter of a million miles? I'd love to find a later Coronet body and put the 318 in it, Any suggestions?

The bones of the vehicle are in really good shape, as far as the inside goes, it's a different story lol. I was going to make it a work truck kind of thing... I don't know. I just know that with the 5.2, the truck was me, if that makes any sense. I don't know if you remember talking about it before, but I was wanting to put a standard in it kind of like the old RamCharger.
I'm a firm believer that 300K is a good number for a engine .... 250k Is not bad .... but is time to consider a rebuild no matter how well it runs.
Just depends on if you want to keep the vehicle. .... I have a 1993 caravan with 187K miles on it, the rebuilt transmission has 22K miles and the used engine I installed has 135K.
I have a 1991 chebby Silverado truck with 430K miles on the truck .... runs and drives like a new truck .... no idea how many actual miles on the drive train ....
All it takes is $$ and time to do repairs and maintenance .... depends on you if you have a vehicle you love enough to maintain it.
Hint .... is cheaper then a car payment and full coverage insurance.
I'm not positive on this, I thought the 360 is technically a stroked 318? Different crank with shorter rods to add CI while using the same block?
I just have a vision in my mind that the stock 318 2bbl is the perfect Grandma's engine ..... solid, dependable, run forever, decent gas mileage .... great all around engine.
I have a old 1949 truck and I picked up a 1970 318 2bbl/3 on the tree manual transmission .... someday I will install it into the old Dodge. I will gasket match the heads for porting and just freshen it up ... has 114K miles on it now. Keep it bone stock and love it.
I was just thinking about UTG and bottle rocket .... I see 10 days ago he did a show on the car and the 318 installed in it.
He originally did have a manual transmission in it and ended up changing it ..... depends on your driving style, what you want. I have a NV3500 manual in my chebby truck with a 350 and love it.
Anyways maybe you will enjoy the video. I love the stroked 318 using the 273 crank/rods .... .030 pistons with the cylinders bored 040 ... all used bearings with copper showing and 0 oil pressure at idle.
I have watched the videos from when he was building the car .... never had a problem with the engine as badly as he beats on it.
He has a replacement 318 with 360 heads? .... lots of possibilities with the 318.

Or, if you are feelin' froggy, go with a 5.9.
