Arrow Durango 2000 4.7 Starter Issue (New Starter Odd Sound)

Hi all, so my truck has about 189k and the starter was starting to fail, hard starts. I put in a new battery and put new plugs prior to changing the starter, since they were do anyways. I got a new starter, installed and it was starting the truck but I am getting a odd sound for about a second or two (its even hard to hear in the video). The flywheel is fine and the starter is the exact same one as the oem, and has no shims. The new starter I got is FVP, a chinese brand. Wondering what people thought about the sound. Video attached is near the starter. It's hard to hear for some reason. I can't even hear it in the video honestly. The bolts on the manifold need to be changed so I can hear that a bit in the video but not the odd starting sound.

The truck wasn't making this sound till after the new starter was put in.

Not really hearing anything unusual there. Being a cheap chinese starter though, likely tolerances aren't as good, and it may not be space appropriately from the flywheel. Unfortunately, due to the way it mounts, there is nothing you can do about that..... If it really bothers you, get a better quality starter... Otherwise, I would just run with it.

Thanks HeyYou I am going to get a video from right below. The sound drives me nuts, def something with the way its engaging the flywheel imo.

Does it kinda scream at you when the engine fires? If so, then that is indeed a spacing problem... and I am not entirely sure if there is anything you can do about it, aside from trying a different starter....

Chinese junk won't last long. I once had a rebuilt aftermarket starter that I put in my daughter's Honda fail the day after I put it in. Problem was, she drove over 400 mi back to school before it failed. She sent me a video of the starter loudly squealing with the car was off! Had to pay a shop to replace it.

Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by "hard starts." The usual failure is the solenoid goes and you get that single 'click'. Here is how you fix that on the cheap and get to keep your factory starter. Hopefully you didn't return it yet....
