Default Transmission Help

I need help figuring out how to fix a code for output speed sensor. I have replaced the sensor in the transmission along with the speed sensor in the rear diff and many others but none of them have seemed to do the trick. My Durango has problems of not wanting to shift out of first every now and then but for the most part runs fine. Has anyone had this problem or can point me in the right direction?? The code is p0720 and its a 99 Durango with the 5.2 v8

Possible you have a wiring or connector issue, but from what I can tell that codes points to that sensor specifically in the trans. Its doesn't say anything about mechanical failure causing the fault, so you're looking at wiring, connector or possibly faulty new sensor. If you have alot of metal on the sensor from other problems, that could also cause headaches.

Today I went and bought a new connector and wiring. I got it installed and it seems to be shifting better but the engine light is still on. I'm assuming ill probably have to go through a few cycles and put some miles on it before the light possibly turns off on its own. The kit I got also came with a new sensor but since I've already installed a new sensor I didn't bother changing it, if the light doesn't go off in about a week I will put the new sensor in and go from there.

Reset the computer. Simply disconnect the battery, turn on headlights, turn off headlights, reconnect battery. Turn the ignition to 'on', count to ten, (don't touch anything) then start the engine. Should figger out idle right quick. Go for a drive, see if the code comes back.

I just went and tried it and the light came back on. It turns on as soon as it shifts into second

Have a scanner that can read live data? See what the sensor is reporting for trans output speed.

I do not have a scanner. I think I'm on the right track trying to fix the problem though, before I changed the wires and plug the trans wouldn't know what to do when I turned off overdrive and also wouldn't want to downshift when coming to stops. Today after replacing everything it didn't have downshifting problems and I was able to turn overdrive on/off without having any issues. I'm wondering now if I need to just drive it for awhile and see if anything happens.
