@Arctic: Like shrps said, it's better to solder the wires together to get the best connection.

He stated he was having the same problem as the OP with the blower switch and it ended up being a worn connection in the ignition switch in the column.

All I did was buy a new resistor and wiring set, then simply put it together (with the bigger guage wires) by using the old harness as an example (after I disconected the battery and cut the old harness out) and soldered the new parts to the existing wires. It works great now, thanks to some very helpful tips on Dodge Forum. *NOTE: BUY A NEW RESISTOR AND WIRING SET. The wiring set is moisture resistant.

Thurmanator, When I had the blower problem diagnosed by a mech. he determined that the problem was the actual ingintion switch, the ignition switch is where you put the key to start the vehicle. When we examined the switch, some of the contact points were worn and not keeping solid contact which led to the front blower fan going on and off. It's been two weeks and I the fan hasn't gone off since.

Default Resistor Failure

My wife has a 2004 Durango. The resistor keeps failing. I have purchased and replaced the wiring harness to the resistor and the blower motor. The resistor gets super hot on any speed but high (none of the wires are hot). The only change is that now I can turn the blower off. Before the blower would constantly blow at low speed. We have had it for 2 years.

BTW the resistor has been changed also.

Any ideas what could be cause a resistor to fail on anything but off and high. Thanks for your input.

Hi all. The blower stooped working the other day. There is heat (very little) coming out. I can only move the fan switch between the 2nd and 3rd setting. I am not able to move the switch to the first or highest setting. So my question is, would the switch itself need to be replaced, or is this another indication that the resistor is bad.

Any help is appreciated.

when you say that you cannot move the switch to the first or highest setting do you mean it doesnt change anything if you put it there or the switch physically wont turn to those positions??? bc there is a big difference in what the issues could be
