Could just be a cracked mode cam rather than the blend door.

Default Heater blower

My blower in my 2001 dodge Durango has been intermittently working. I usually just leave it in the on position with it being cold out I would prefer that it work all of the time.
Yesterday when I was driving it wasn't blowing, but it was in the on position. I started smelling something burning. It smelled like a burning electrical smell. I pulled over and looked under the hood and there was a little bit of smoke coming from the passenger side, by the firewall. I turned off the blower switch and didn't smell it again.
We were thinking it was the blower motor getting hot. Any suggestions?

Good Morning,

I have been lurking here for about two weeks or so. I purchased a 2001 Dodge SLT back in August. One of my issues with my 'Rango was that the blower vents did not work. The dealer told me that it was a switch in the dash. I decided to get this fixed when the cooler temperatures started up. I live in Minnesota.

I am not the most 'mechanically inclined' person around. I can do some things (I spent almost 5 days replacing the front rotors and brakes on my old F-150 last year) so after reading about the resistor switch, I decided to give it ago.

Well, it work satisfactory. My vents has 5 positions: Off, low, med, high, highest. After replacing the resistor all but highest position works. I will take this as a victory as the cool weather has hit us this last week or so.

Therefore, my thanks to you who have posted in this thread. I would like to lift the suspension but I do not believe I will tackle that just yet. I do not have a warm place to work (so out in the parking lot) so maybe next spring.

Again, thanks!

I bought a blower motor resistor online via MOPAR. When I installed it, my situation went from no blower to the blower only working at the highest speed. Did I wire it wrong or did I receive a bad resistor?

irondime, it could be that when you have the fan on the vacuum solenoid are attempting to direct the airflow and you have a vac leak int he system, its all that i can think off of the top of my head that would make a hissing sound.

checkdricks, check your plug at the resistor and make sure its not melted and that all of the insulation on the wires is intact if not you may need to replace the wire as well (it is of course possible that you got a bad resistor, but i would chcek the wires first)

That's sounds right. The hissing noise only lasts a second or two but does it every ten seconds. It's like the noise when you switch the airflow direction setting.

sounds like you have a vacuum leak, clearly its not bad yet or it would be a constant hiss, might be worth looking for.
