Durango Blower Switch
Hi, I've been reading all these posts because my blower motor just went out. Called the dealership because that is what most people have posted they did, and the price I'm getting for a resistor is $62.18. It's the holidays and I sure would like to pay under $20 like everyone else. My heat is working, but it's not blowing, so I can feel the vents and it's warm. Not sure if I'm looking for the resistor, wiring or what. Those are the options my dealership here in town gave me, plus he wants to charge me $60 for a diagnostics and if I choose to get it serviced through them, then they'll waive that fee. Please help.... it's around zero° and I have a four year old that has to go in the car with me.... Need warmth! =)
Aernst,
First of all, can you describe the problem with your blower? Is it the same as everyone else? No speeds other than high? More importantly, what year model Durango do you have? This issue mainly affected years 2001 to 2003 as they have the new 2nd generation interior layout.
The price for that resistor seems a bit high. Everyone that bought the resistor pack for the blower ran anywhere betwen $13-$25. Not the $62 your dealer wanted. If you have another dodge dealer not too far away, try giving them a call and ask for a price for the resistor pack for your blower.

Or check it out online. I'm sure you could find a much cheaper resistor at www.rockauto.com If you aren't getting the blower working at all I can almost guarantee it isn't your resistor. Give us more info on the symptoms and we can tell you your best course of action.
Ok, yea, I forgot to add that stuff. I have a 2003 Durango. The problem is that I can feel warmth from the vent, but it's not blowing. My boyfriend and his friend wired a switch to it last night so that I can flip it to turn it on and it works now.... However, problem not completely fixed. They were going to find the other relay in the motor to hook that up to see if it was the relay and not sure if they just didn't look for it (then jimmy rigged it) or if they couldn't find it so they jimmy rigged it. Anyway, that's the problem.... heat(and in the frozen tundra, this needs to blow), but it's not blowing on any speed. Hope this helps... Thanks for any help!!! =)

Ask your boyfriend where he wired into to get the blower to work and what he bypassed to get the thing to work. Is he still going through the switch and blower motor resistor? How about the ignition switch? I can track this down pretty easily as it is a simple circuit. Did he use a separate ground to get the blower working? Does he know how to use a voltmeter? If he does this is a simple problem to find.
A few things I'm looking at here is that it could possibly be a bad connection at the blower resistor, a bad dash switch, or possibly it is the ignition switch. The most likely scenario is a bad ground or a poor connection but have him tell you what he did exactly or have him post up what he did exactly to get it to work and we can eliminate some of these items.

On my '01 the fan seems to work and then not work. Am I right to assume that an inconsistent resistor would do this? Or should I be looking at something else? By the way I priced a resistor at Murray's Auto just in case it is the resistor and it was just under $10.
Most cases, it is the resistor that is blowing out for the 2001-2003 models. Some users here said that Dodge seemed to have improved on their new replacement resistor packs not long ago as they described the new resistor pack seemed to be built with better materials.
I would go ahead and check out the resistor first. The part itself is relatively cheap and only takes a few minutes to replaced if you have done this before or about 30 minutes for a first timer.
Rarely if the problem lies in the switch or blower from the reports that users are responding on.

I don't imagine that a resistor pack is the issue as it has no moving parts and would either work or not work. You could have a poor connection/ground giving you problems or it could be bad contacts in the switch itself.
A quick question...the blower on my 2002 SLT+ does work on all settings, however, it isVERY weak on the lower 2 (so much so that I end up turning it to almost high all the time to get air moving) [&o]. Would this blower resistor also take care of that?Or is it only if you entirely lose blower function except on high setting? Thanks for any info.
