but what i was wondering, is how long can you keep it in 4high when there isnt snow on the road..but say maybe there is about 2 miles down the road?????but anyways, how long can you keep it in 4 high without slippery roads???
On dry pavement put it back in 2wd. When you get to the snow shift back into 4HI. JIM.

so is it bad for the transfer case to be shifting in and out of 2wd and 4wd.....or is it worse to just keep it in 4wd????

Only use 4X4 when you need it. I like to stop when engaging or disengaging 4X4. JI don't care if the transfer case is shift on the fly or not I still stop. Also I shift into 4X4 and put it in drive then reverse then drive to make sure it is locked in. Pulling it out back into 2wd I always stop shift, put it in drive, reverse 20 yards, then drive. I have had problems in muti vehicles with shifting in and out of 4X4 so I always take extra time to make sure it is in and out.

As for being bad on the transfer case, I think it would be worse to drive on dry pavement in 4X4 then to shift the transfer case.

just to make this clear. if theres like a 20-50ft section of dry pavement and the rest is snow covered. you dont have to take it out and put it back into 4wd just for that small section do you?

I would if you are making turns. I always shift on the fly because when I was in NY the main streets would be cleared pretty well but the residential streets wouldn't even be plowed because of how tight some of them were.

In a straight line there is no need to go back into 2wd on a dry patch. In the corners shift back into 2wd. You can go into 4HI up to 55mph, but if you need 4x4 you shouldn't be going that fast anyway. Shifting the x-fer case on the fly will not hurt it. Leaving it in 4x4 on dry corners will. JIM.

You can shift while going betweeen 5 and 45 mph I'm pretty sure. I personally wouldn't go all the way up to 45 and shift I go slow when I want to change into 4wd.
