Default 3 questions

1. I'm wanting to change my transmission fluid on a '98 Durango with a4speedauto. transmission. Is there a brandthat's better, or one that others have had more success with?

2.Has anyone with a '98 model, that has a powerdriver side seat, experienced a looseness or a kind of slight rockinginthe seat itself, which is most noticeable when you're moving around in the seat, not necessarily adjusting it withtheswitches?

3. Wanting to put on a K&N air filter but I'm wanting to know what model to use for a '98 with a 5.2L engine, if thatmakes a difference. What benefits does a K&N filter offer? Where's the best place to get one for the best price?

Thanks for any help.

Use only ATF+4. You can use Mobil 1 and Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid as well. Do not, under any circumstances, use Dexron or Mercon transmission fluid.
ATF+4 is actually licensed by DiamlerChrysler, so, if the bottle says, "ATF+4," you know its good stuff. I know Valvoline sells ATF+4 (and, soon, I'll be changing out my transmission fluid with Valvoline ATF+4), and other companies are slowly starting to get licensed to produce it.
Any ATF+4 you buy will be fully synthetic, so ifyou like to use synthetic fluids, you won't have to hunt down synthetic ATF+4.

walmart sells the mopar labeled ATF-4... $4.40 or so a bottle.

the K&N CAI setup is agood way to go... had one on my jeep GC with the 5.2 and it made a nice improvement in performance. Had one on my 2000 ram 5.9 and also made a nice improvement...

Thanks for all the input. My next ? might be stupid, but since I've never changed the trans. fluid myself on it, where's the drain plug? Where is it in relation to the oil drain plug?Is there anything else I would need to do to replace the fluid then just draining it? Is there something more to flushing the system? Also, does just replacing my currrent air filter with a K&N filter add any extra HPaside from putting on a CAI system? Thanks again for the help.

there is no drain plug... unless you have an aftermarket pan. there is a filter you will need to change out as well... my suggestion is go to the 2nd gen Ram forum and find the Dodge info thread at the top of the forum, then look in there for the reference to the merry christmas thread... there is a FSM in there for a 2001 ram, the tranny is a 46re IIRC andshould be the same as yours, it'll have the info needed to do your tranny servicing...

Sorry steve05ram360 but I can't find what you're talking about in the 2nd Gen. forum. What Dodge info.thread are you talking about? Sorry if I seem naive, but just am not able to find it or the merry christmasthread that you were talking about. But maybe you can tell me, for the tranny, is it just a pan that needs to come off that holds the fluid with the filter, and a gasket around the pan that should also be replaced? Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will need the new filter which almost always comes with the gasket and the new fuild the proper way is to take out the back bolts leaving the 4 front bolts in then loosen the front four bolts 4 turns then pry the back of the pan down allowing the fuild to drain then take out the last bolts , drain the pan clean the pan well scarpe any old gasket off both surfaces careful not to skore the metal , now on some models there are magnets to catch any metal shaving if so clean it well a bit if shavings in normal , romove the filter from the valve body make sure the old gasket is off of there as well, install new filter with the new gasket then install the pan going around the pan tighting each bolt a little at a time , then ur ready for ur fluid when done run ur truck for a bit and run it through all ur gears while staying still a few times then check the level agian to make sure its still between the dimples you may have to add just a bit more.

here is the thread... https://dodgeforum.com/m_491292/tm.htm

here is the merry christmas thread https://dodgeforum.com/m_340929/tm.htm

you need to yank the pan to drain the fluid... loosen the bolts up and make it so you can tilt the pan to allow some of it to drain out, the pull it down and dump it. then you'll have to yank the filter and replace it, then put the pan & gasket back on and re-fill it.

Can someone tell me how many quarts of tranny fluid these transmissions need? Someone told me 4 but I think that might be a bit too low. It's a '98 4 speed auto transmission with a 5.2 L engine, if that matters. Also, what's the easiest way to change the fluid? Is putting it up on ramps a good idea to help change the fluid? Thanks foryour help.
