exhaust is the hardest thing to weld, so i wouldnt try it untill you know how to weld... or your gona turn the heat up to high and then you gona have to try to fix all the holes you just made.... [:'(]its not fun, a buddy of mine thought that he was a pro... 30 min later i fixed it all for him

skip the welding and use band claps they about 10 bucks a peice there way better than a the normal style cause they dont dent in the pipe which makes changing things way easier just did mine can take pics if you want

yeah if ur a noob i would suggest not trying to weld an exhaust right away. u can use mig (wire feed)or tig (torch) to do it though. start pracitcing upon some other thin stuff before trying to do ur exhaust.

i have a lincoln arc welder that i use for larger projects (havent gotten this garage wired up for 220v yet though)and a small mig welder from walmart that i use for doing exhausts.....i dont think ive used muffler clamps in a long time....
the mig welder is onlya 110v so it doesnt have too much power.....turn the heat only low....wire speed at about 5 or 6 and just weld away....only problem with welding exhaust while its on the car is that it gets kinda hard when your trying to get the top of the pipe.......
i would deffinately suggest clamps if you dont have much experience
