the heater core would be for the heat only.....hot coolant flow through it and when the blower blows airthrough it, you get heat......

Must have been a coincidence, the heater core is the same thing as a radiator, but smaller under your dash that as the hot coolant comes in, it heats the copper /aluminum coils and then the blower fan blows air over it, giving you heat. The a/c is a totally different unit, It uses its own coils and condenses the air... Try recharging your a/c and it should work.

Well... Is the AC compresser still there? Is all the lines attached to it? Is there a thing that looks like the radiatorplaced in front of it? The AC lines should be running into it. If so then I would bet that the AC system is still there.

It is very possible to completly remove all of the AC system. Matter of fact some people do, I prefer to have some cold air myself. As for diagnosing the AC system, someone else will have to explain that. I don't have enough knowladge in the matter really. I can mess it up good and proper for you though lol.

As for the heater core. All you did was as you said bypassed it. Nothing to do with the AC when connecting the two heater core lines together.

But... Why did you have to bypass it? Was the Core leaking or maybe some constant hot air blowing?
