yes, you can switch the head over. dont think that you have to switch PCMs but the DOHC one is better that the SOHC HP wise

what about the transmission

so if i change my head to a Dohc and got a Dohc Trans i would have an mtx DOHC ?? which isnt that the fastest neon??

absolutly positivly.... not woth it.. well the MTX to ATX would be worth it biut the DOHC would not be....
firstthe DOHC headmight work depending on the year head you got, second yes, no matter what you need a computer.. unless they did not offer a DOHC that year (no, no other computer will work on a neon, besides mega squirt. (yeah i cant spell) ) it will run without the computer but not that good, timing is diffrent, fuel curves all that kind off stuff is diffrent. Then to make it even make a diffrence you need to change the pistons and rods (and yes you have to pull the engine to do that) and at this point.. your better off putting a stock 2.4 motor in....

no to mention soch is better for turbo.... at least what i have read anyways....

point being, its not worth it... i hope thats all the info you need.... i dont want to see anyone waste thier money like i did, and then find out its not worth it!!!

its worth it depending on what you using the car for....
if your gonna turbo it then put the dohc head on the car and keep the sohc pistons in there.....if your not gonna turbo then you will probally actually loose power..

as said, you will need the computer
any dohc head will fit on a 95-99 sohc block.....doesnt matter what year it is
a dohc is also alot better for tuning and has more upgraded cam options

The DOHC PCM does not make more HP and you would be wise to swith to a DOHC PCM or you wouldn't be able to use the higher rev limit.

it wouldnt be the same as a stock dohc motor though since it will have the sohc pistons....with the sohc pistons you will have lower compression which will cause the car to be slower then a stock dohc

so let me get this straight you can take a sohc engine put a dohc head on it and it is now a dohc engine ...or am i misreading this post...is this a hp increase from just running a sohc head on its original block

DOHC motors have a dome piston and big combustion chamber, SOHC has flat tops and small chambers, DOIHC on SOHC bottom makes less compression andpower untill you put DOHC pistons in with it
DOHC pistons in a SOHC motor makes a good amount of midrange power, probly more than the DOHC stock
add in a 95 cam then you got a good running SOHC.
put in a 2.4 you got torque but no top end rev, DOHC is all top end and nothing else.
