depends on your tools, garage, experience. if i had enough of each i would rebuild it myself with stronger parts. otherwise, get a pro to just swap you into a used engine. safer.

Engine swap is not that bad unless you are doing the srt 4 swap and that just takes a little more time and thinking. ButI would try to stay as close to the same year as I could. As far as the pcm it depends on what cange overs you do like xtm to atm or sohc to a dohc.

Buy the Mopar HG kit from Modern and replace the RMS and be happy. I just purchased the kit and replaced my HG along with the timing belt, water pump and idler pulley myself.

why go through all the extra work to change the motor when you could just change a headgasket and rms and save alot of money????

well the motor has 155,000 miles on it and thought that if i could find one that had low miles i would be better off but i geuss i could just change the rm and head gasket and live

but if i got a say 2000 neon that was sohc and mtx like mine would i have to swap the pcm??
because if you dont and i can find one with about 60k and swap it in a weekend i would

Nope, you would use the 1st gen PCM.

You could also consider swapping in a 2.4L from a stratus though if you had the sohc neon it'll require some dohc parts.

if you are going to do a 2.4L swap you should go ahead and do the srt 4 swap
