my fault of the shops fault??????
so i took my whole motor apart this morning and this is what i found.....this is the #1 piston and the cylinder walls it came out of.....needless to say, i think i found my knocking problem...i just dont know if this was because of sumthing that i did or sumthing that the shop messed up.....any ideas????
if this ends up being my fault then im gonna be out $1900....it looks like the piston was dragging on the cylinder wall for a while and i had plenty of oil and coolant in the motor.....this sux

here is a pic of what the other 3 cylinder walls look like.....not a scratch on them...especially compared to the 1st one......
the last pic is the spark plug that i pulled out of the #4 cylinder.....
just kinda sux that all this happened with only 259 miles on it[&:]

well i put the motor together....including the rings....but i put them together like any other rings ive ever done and i followed all directions exactly as provided by JE..as well as checking all ring gaps and correcting as needed......the rings are jammed in the ring grooves now and i would have to force them out
Damn spud... that SUCKS.... Either way, I think its going to be hard to prove now that its their fault since you've taken it apart! What all did they do? Just the crank?
I doubt the shop will take the heat for that damage, because they didn't do the assembly. Had they put it together then they might be on the hook for it. That really sucks, and looking at that spark plug tells me there was much more going on inside that motor that was not correct.
that looks like not enough piston to cyl wall clearence to me, or WAY too much heat from a turbo.
are the rings crammed in the grooves or are the ring lands broke?
if i remember right your turbo, and by the looks of that sprak plug id say way lean on that cylinder from a bad injector KO'd your motor... whats the top of the piston look like?
that sucks man.

after looking a 2nd time thats excessive heat, overexpasion, the "4 corners" of the valve relifes is where that mess started...
in the first pic it looks like the top ring land is broke

ok whats the ring land???....if its thepart of the pistonbetween the rings, then none of them are broken...just very scuffed up..
there is nolonger a ring gap and there are small parts of the piston embedded in the cylinder wall.....
the burnt plug came out of #4 and the bad piston was out of #1....top of the pistons look like new, just have some carbon build-up.....
the shop told me that they wouldnt put the motor together.....and then to rip it all apart and let them know what the problem is

yeah spud that sucks in your case and where im suck at Camel *****. you may have gotten on it to much beforethe engine was properly broken in. (3000 miles) or would either be oil starvation or heat and or both. what kind of oil did you have in there could be a factor too cause the turbo may have heated it up to much so it was to thin and wouldnt stick to any of the metal on metal parts as good as it should as for the spark plug i would say its from preignition
