2.0 sohc or 2.0 dohc. a 2.4 would be pushing it. The bell housing may not line up to engine on a 2.4. And forget about a 3.0 .

There have been numerous 2.4 engine swaps into neons. The ATX or MTX bolt right up to the engine.

If you want a little more torque, go for the 2.4 swap.

dont need the trans out of the stratus. it will just bolt up to the Neons tranny.

r/t motor isnt anything special over any other DOHC 2.0 its all the samejust the r/t PCM is tuned a little more agressive. put a 2nd gen r/t magnum SOHC motor in and those run pretty good but thats alot more swapping to do.
the 2.4 has more torque but doesnt like to rev as high. thats mostly a direct swap other than a little rewiring and a motor mount.

The RT Engine is listed at 150hp while the stratus is 142hp, so what the 2.4 gives you is a more torque, I would throw a SOHC head on it for more compression and out of the box stock for stock parts to make an engine that would have more than 150hp just by using stock parts. The 2.4 uses the Neon DOHC head which has a bigger cc cumbustion chamber than the SOHC engine does, which if you don't have much money I would swap your SOHC head onto the 2.4 Engine and have a screaming engine right away, which would make sence since the DOHC Engine makes its power around 6,500 Rpm and the SOHC and 2.4 Stratus Engine peak around 5500-6000Rpm.

Using stock partsthe SOHC head would compliment the 2.4 better than the DOHC head will. The DOHC is made for high 6,500RPM rangewhich the 2.4 will never achive in stock formwhile the SOHC head has a fatter power band below 6000Rpm and is really the better choice for mathcing parts.

So lets recap what the SOHC headbrings the 2.4 engine.

-More Compression over the DOHC head which= more power

- Head and cam profiles that betterfit the RPM range the engine was designed for.

I would say with the SOHC head on the 2.4 block that 160hp would be easily in reach within a useable Rpm. Some may disagree but I don't care its common sense that tells you this combo works This isnt a SOHC vs DOHC discussion, I'mjust stating that with STOCK PARTS and virtuallyunder $20 for gasketsyou can make a Engine with More Power than a DOHC equiped block. Others May say what they want about the DOHC's potential true or notbut with stock parts and a SOHC head and virtually no money you can build a better engine than the 2.4 and 2.0 DOHC.

thanks so maybe go with a stratus block which i can get for like 40 bucks and a 2nd gen head since they have better cams and breathers and push about 160 to 165 hp using stock parts sounds like a sweet deal i never really thought of using a dohc block with the sohc head i kinda like single cames less moving parts to break lol and cheap when it comes to modding cu your not buying 2 cams and 2 cam gears and so on.
