when we first got our '90 Legacy, the coolant res. had a white milky sustaince in it. it ended up just being the type of coolant that was used in it before. isn't the chocolate milk color what you have to worry about? have you tried changing the oil and then seeing if it comes back? and are you loosing coolant or is it just over heating?

I have the MLS gasket. You still think it's breached?
Well, if you've been loosing coolant and can't find the leak, then it's been going out of your tailpipe. It probably just finally got bad enough to breach into the oil.

Straight water takes a lot longer to mix with oil than antifreeze. It'll show up as gooeycondensation at the top of the engine first (in the valve cover and on the bottom of the oil cap. Soon there will be enough that it'll show up on the dipstick above the oil. In time, it will permiate the oil and go "chocolate milk".

Rats, that's exactly what's happening...it's even starting to find its way into the throttle body via that recirculate hose. I'm screwed...

Well, if you've been loosing

What is Loosing? You mean losing? Losing and Loose are two different things! Sorry to sound mean but I'm not trying to.

Read through my other posts. I type fast and often post without proofreading first. I'll only go in and edit for gross errors that truly affect the way it may be percieved. You and everyone else knew exactly what I meant, despite hitting the"o" keyone too many times.

I screw up if, to, the, and, etc all the time. Fi, ot, hte, teh, adn, nad, and so on. Message board, not turn paper.

More than likely you have a blown HG. Might as well change the timing belt, idler pulley and water pump while you are at it

OK, that one was egregious. Happens late in the evening when I've been at it for a few hours.[sm=insomnia.gif]
