Default wiring question

i just bought a 97 neon from a friend. he blow up the stock dohc so he put in a sohc. it runs and drives but he never changed the engine bayharness so its wired all messed up. i wanted to know should i just go get a sohc engine bay harness and computer put that in or what? and if i get a harness do i need the dash harness to? i would put the dohc back in but i dont have the moneyto spend on that motor when im trying to build a motor for my other car. the 96 neon i drive now has a sohc and i love how good it is on gas. if any one has any info to help me out that would be great. will there be any problems i will be running in to while doing this.

thanks chris

You could just do a top end swap, the DOHC and SOHC engines are identical, they just have different heads. If not, I wouldnt mess with the harness. It would be easier just to take any wires that are tight and splice some wire in to extend it, and ones that are too long just take some wire out. Make good splices and tape it up well, you wont have any problems. If you do decide to do a harness, no, you do not have to do the interior harness either, if you look at the PCM (above the drivers side wheel well) you will see two 60 pin (or 60 somthing, lol) plugs. One is for the interior, other is for the engine.

I wouldent do that.... heres why...

SOHC pistons in a DOHC=9.3:1 ***this is what you would have if you put a dohc head on your sohc pistons...
DOHC pistons in a DOHC=9.6:1
SOHC pistons in a SOHC=9.8:1***This is what you have now...
DOHC pistons in a SOHC=10.1:1 (could be 10.3:1 i forget)

get my point...

talk to ghost neon he has like 3 wiring harnesses that hes letting go cheap and unmelested...And do get the sohc computer...at wot you are running pig rich...

He means it is running rich with the DOHC computer. Lots of people have done a DOHC on a SOHC block and the compression drop isnt really enough to notice anything... On the harness, 95's are OBDII, all neons are, but they used a single connector for the engine harness and the interior harness and round pins on things such as the coil pack and some sensors instead of flat pins. 96 they went to dual PCM plugs, one for the engine, one for the interior, mid 96 they went from the round pins to the flat pins, so mid 96-97 are basically the same thing, then in 98 they changed the injector plugs, IAC plug, and starter plug, and 99 was the same as 98. I know this because I have a 97 in which I put an harness from a 98 on after everyone told me it would work... LoL.

alright i got a 97wire harness and computer from the junk yard today. i found out from my friend that the sohc thats in the car now is a 95 is that going to be a problem or is it ok? if the plugs dont plug in could i just cut the plugs and put the 95 plugs on or will there be a differents in the wires. i know when i put a 99 5 speed trans in my 96 the plug for the speed senser was different and i just got the plug off the car and just wired it in and it work fine.
