Default MPx Rebuild Kits

I'm looking at producing more power from my wife's SOHC. It only has 72,000 miles on it, so it's not really in need of a rebuild, so to say. I've lookd at MPx's Rebuild kits and was wondering what kind of power I might be able to expect. This winter I plan on boosting it, and I figured that I'd need to replace stock insides before hand, so I don't blow it up. Any of ya'll used these kits? Can I piece them together cheaper?

if you piece the kit together it will be about the same price...but it all depends on what kind of parts you use, compared to the kit..

if you are gonna turbo the motor, then it would be best to use the lowest compression pistons, but in the mean time, the motor would be slow as hell..

I know 2 people that have bought the kits and loved them. You might be able to save a few dollars here and there by piecing it together yourself, but then how much time are you going to spend looking around on the web.

What's the stock compression on the neons? If I go with a 10.5:1 compression, what's the max psi i should be looking at running with at detonation.

if you plan on turboing the motor AND using 10.5:1 compression, then i wouldnt reccomend using very much boost at all...though it isnt even reccomended to use that compression with a turbo

Yep, ideal for any forced induction is 8.5:1, so if you build the motor, it will be a bit slower as spud mentioned, that is until you put the turbo on.

What's stock for a neon? 9 something? The new cam will help out a little bit at restoring lost power though, wont it?

SOHC pistons with a DOHC head=9.3:1
DOHC pistons with a DOHC head=9.6:1
SOHC pistons with a SOHC head=9.8:1
DOHC pistons with a SOHC head=10.3:1

right now i'm runnin 8.6 (or 8.5) je pistons, with fully built motor, just waiting for time to put turbo in place, with #12 crane cam, and it's still slow as hell

it's decent past about 3500-4000, but even that's nothin real spectacular
