i heard an 03 sxt engine would swap right into the 1st gen sohc engine bay with out any modding.
is this true?
if not. can any 1 tell me wich engine would,without much modding.

you cant swap in second gen neon engine with modding the car pretty heavily. you can either put in another neon engine, or a 2.4 from a pre 01 stratus, caravan etc. the 2.4 will require more modding (motor mounts, some brackets, and a bit of electrical work)

ur best bet is to buy another neon engine if u dont want to change much

check the 2.0 SOHC to DOHC sticky if you want to know what mods that takes - as its the most simple swap other than replacing the motor with another w/e you have now.

is the engine an upgrde?

i thought only the magnum engine in the r/ts and acrs were upgraded

even if you could, it wouldnt be worth it to put it in there

 

yeah, i actually had an 03 sxt in graphite metallic (dark grey) brand new as my first car.

handled pretty well on dry pavement, but was slow. sxt= 6 disk stereo, cd, auto trans, and some other things.getsthe touring suspension which is a little better than a base neons.mine was fully loaded. cruise, sunroof, fog lights. i totaled it doing 30 mph in a parking lot....

swirved to miss someone backing out of their spot, and hit the center of a gaurdrail in the rain. the car smashed all the way back to the transmission and cracked the housing

air bags didnt even deploy

grandparents lost their business cuz my grandpa got into gambling. a tempo and blazer fit between my first neon and the one i have now.

id take my first gen any day. even though it has a lot of miles

 

The 03 SXT is a SOHC engine just like the one you have. It doesn't just bolt right in, but is a very easy swap.

 

but is ther any advantage to swapping it?

 

Probably find one with lower miles on it.

i thought the starter and wiring was completely different on the 2nd gen cars? dont you have to change the gauges and everything?

 

Excuse my first post....you can use an 00-02 engine, not an 03+ because of the move to the NGC PCM. It is a different block as well.
