Default The writings on the Wall: Compression Test Results

a week of denial has finally turned to greif, I'll start with the cylinder closest to the Throttle Body.

Cylinder #4 40psi, Cylinder #3 50psi, Cylinder #2 60psi, Cylinder #1 100psi

And this thing will still wax a civic, my God has mopar made a good engine and i mean that with all my heart, i will rebuild this engine or retire it in my personal hall of fame.

I'm sad but I hope the next engine performs just as well and hopefully has a MLS gasket.

you should do a differential compression test.

i used a push typecompression tester my dad had that dates from the 50's or 60's. but yeah that would be a good idea to use a different tester, but I don't feel very hopeful for a happy ending anymore. The thing runs so well it's really hard to grasp it has barely any compression.

Whats a good range for psi on acompression test for a sohc?

it actually runs very well above 2500 Rpm, would never know anything was wrong after that. Highway cruising is very easy but low end kinda sucks a bit and has a miss.

It hasn't taken more than a 1/4 quart in the week I've driven it running like crap and thats about what it usually took anyway due to the bad valve seals it had and I have not noticed any metal shavings on the plugs or in the oil everything is normal except the smoking out of the valve cover and slightly lagy low end powerband.

So far its been dependable for the wife but she smokes out her co workers in the morning and when she leaves, i made the mistake of wanting a shamrock shake at Mc Donalds and went to the drive through and literally smoked the whole parking lot up was embarrising and must have made the Green people cringe knowing i just negated 2 years of use out of their electric hybridcars enviormental surplus.

I have a feeling if i don't fix the car soon my car is going to be spray painted green with hippy signs or burnt by mad green people driving hybrids and Volkswagons. My car smokes very bad but gets to point A and point B on a sip of gas.

compression according to the haynes manual is 170-200 psi, with a service limit of 100 psi, meaning it isn't anything to worry about unless it's under 100psi, or has a variation of 25% between 2 cylinders, as variation is an indication of uneven wear
