Default Great news. I am back in the neon. Pics.

Well yesterday I was fed up with trying to find a new engine block. I ended up honing one I had and dropped the dohc WITHOUT filling the tops. Again I am using the sohc head. Started up great. No problems. Drove it over 3 hours including the trip home with it. No problems. No slapping knocking or anything. So I am glad after months of jacking around I have a running neon. No turbo. But I got the mopar ecu, 10.3:1 compression, magnum cam, indy intake, udp, and some more goodies. I got up on it a little but didnt take it over 3k. I want to wait atleast 1000 miles. So I was just letting everyone know. I will be posting pics of it soon. So tell me what you think. I hope to be around the 180 hp mark? What do you guys think? Anyone have any suggestions on how much fuel psi I should run and what octane with my mods? Thanks.

You might be hitting around the 160hp area at best(maybe 145whp). Why do you need to adjust fuel pressure? Get a a/f gauge and FPG and see where you are at.

I have my walboro still in with my 1:1. I didnt want to jack around with taking it out. I figured it wont hurt for it to stay in. And it will give me the option to tune my fuel. That really all you think I am running? 160 damn my stock cavy runs 160. I thought stock neons were dynod at 130hp? I only gained 30 hp with all my mods?

Everything looks great, I'd say your close to 180hp,sohc's are close to 140 stock anyway.

I'm a little worried about your timing belt being exposed to the elements and rocks but otherwise I think everything kicks ***!

I just got my sohc with the Mopar cam or better known asthe "95 Cam" and I'm working on a new intake manifold and I plan to top it off with a 60mm throttlebody. My exhaust is straight through out to a cherry bomb via a chikara shortyheader, the shorty header don't bother me much since the Neons stock piping is abig 2 1/2 all the way back. I've got a cold air intake I made from the stock intake and a $20 spectre crome rewashableair cleaner.

My front motor mount needs to be welded and beefed up it broke off on thetop block mount for the second time, what can I say those sohc's are torque monsters! lol.

Thanks jack me off.Yea I didnt put the cover on because I had a feeling the car wasnt going to run. But to my suprise. It did. And my alternator belt is to small for the udp and slips a little when I start it. ANd my lower timing gear is still on backwards. Lol. I didnt think it was going to start so I didnt do any of that. Now I wish I would of. See I knew I was around the 180 mark.

ok not going to rain on your parade but there is no way that your anywhere around 180 not even 160...

Your MP pcm at stock pressure will work just fine... if you turn it up at all your going to be running rich as hell and killing your hp...

Your PCM can adjust fuel up to 25% (witch is way more then most cars) in either way in case of a lean or rich condition and a neon will not need its fuel system modifyed till it hits right around 200hp...
So stay at the stock 49... and you will be fine... hell since you have the 1:1 turn it down to 46 or 47, after its broke in it will lean you out just a hair and give you a few more ponys...

The factory number are crank horse power which is not what a sohc is putting to the ground. A good intake on a sohc puts it around 118whp. A sohc needs far more mods to make 180. My dohc is not making that (yet) and I have everything expect my head and cams. . Have a look

Do not let those "header for neon adding 10-15hp" adds mislead you. Dyno your car and see. A stock dohc is closer to 140hp than 150. The 2G neon made 150 to the crank, which is more power than the 1g. It is slower since it is heavier side.

I am not knocking your car at all, but just want to be informed on what your car is really doing. Local neon owner has sohc with intake, atx tb, af/x lth and exhaust and ran a 15.8. If he went by the number quoted with the parts, he'd be much faster.

If I am talking about Wheel Horse power I will put WHP. I did not put whp so I must have been talking about crank horser power get my drift?

I used a buddys gtech and i got 119whp to the wheels on my 95 motor, I have aCold Air intake, Shorty header and cherry bomb with no cat, 95 cam (also known as the mopar entry level performance cam) atx 52mm throttlebody. Does 119whp sound right for those mods?

I swore I read a website of a auto dodge neon being dynod. It gave off 100hp stock at the wheels. I was told with the auto tranny reduced the hp by 25%. so that would be about 125. I would figure 6hp from cam, 5hp from intake manifold, 4hp for exhaust, 4hp for mopar ecu, udp with no p/s or a/c 6hp, 10.3:1 compression 7hp?, If I am under 160hp I am going to rip it back apart and buy another turbo. cai 2hp, and alot more little stuff like egr block off and what not.

see this is what we call ricer math...

There are so many variables its not even funny...

and the biggest one is what kind of condition your motor is in...

If you were to go out and equip a SOHC cars with the same mods one with 150k miles and one with 45k miles the number could vari probally as much as 15hp... blow by, cranking pressure, cylinder pressure can all be taken into effect...

Elevation can also play a big part in hp... at sea leval vs. here in montana would be as much as 20 hp difference due to the density of the air...

Temp. and barametric pressure can play a big role too...

Without a dyno its just ricer math...
