Default Clutch Help ASAP Please

Ok so i got the new motor and got that put in, but now im having clutch issues. it wont catch. at all. so i have a few questions.

1. On my car, it had the modular clutch, on the motor i bought it had the conventional clutch. I have a 98. would that do it?

2. could it be the fork and throwout bearing?

3. if its the clutch or the bearing or something where i have to get back in there, how hard is just the transmission to take of? i really dont want to pull the entire motor again.

So here are the symptoms. We started it up in the shed, in gear, with the clutch pushed in, and it just took off. i cant put it in gear, the clutch wont engage at all and the pedal is soft.

also one more question, what do i use to get the clutch and flywheel off my old motor if i end up just changing the clutch? i need something to hold onto the flywheel, do they make a tool? can i rent/borrow it from Autozone?

Pleas help/respond as soon as you can i really need the help. thanks.

i had a similar problem on my 95 Plymouth. try taking off the clutch cable and then putting it back on. fixed my problem. anyways though. the transmission by itself is not that hard at all.

and as long as the flywheel is made for that clutch it wont matter. aka modular clutch needs the modular flywheel. conventional clutch needs the conventional flywheel. otherwise both will bolt up the engine.

and it could be the fork and throwout bearing. when you take off the clutch cable check and see how much play is on the fork and such. when i had my problem i didn't have any play in the fork whatsoever so i had to try and make it move till finally it started to move. Or you could also push in the clutch, and have someone looking at the cable with the inspection cover off (on the transmission) and see if its pulling and such.

Yeah i know about the conventional.modular clutch dealio. my one motor/trans combo had the conventional. and the one that i took out of my car had the modular, and the motor i bought for my car had no flywheel or clutch, and it was easier to get the conventional clutch off. anyway.

Ok so there is supposed to be or not supposed to be play in the fork? if i notice from the top that there is no play is that something i can fix without taking the tranny off? and on a side note, i didnt have that special clutch alignment tool thing, so i just kinda eyballed it. the tranny wouldnt get close enough to the motor to bolt on everything didnt line up correctly, right?

once everything is hooked up and you press the clutch in the first time it should automatically align everything. as for if it would still bolt up. i honestly dont know but i think if it wasn't off by too much then it would bolt up but if its like really really off then it wouldn't. and the fork should have a little play. not too much though.

Did you replace the throw out bearing when you did the clutch?

and everything that has to do with the fork, except the clutch cable, needs to have the transmission removed in order to fix it.

no i didnt replace the TOB, only because i didnt have it apart for clutch work, i had it apart because i had to bolt it up to a new engine.

how will i know if the fork is bad? how will i determine if the TOB is bad?
Im actually gonna go out and start on it. ill chime in in a few hours with an update and let you know what i find. then maybe we can go from there and i can explain what i see better.

fork doesn't really go bad. but the TOB will. general rule of thumb is to replace the TOB whenever you have a new/different clutch/transmission off.

i learned that the hard way. last year i blew my clutch (modular) so i replaced it with the clutch that was in my 95 (conventional). i didn't even know to replace the TOB cause it was fine before. but once i got it all back together the TOB was bad. so i had to take it all the way off again to replace it.

yeah im thinking thats what happend here too. i got pissed at the car so im back inside right now, gonna call around and find the best price on a TOB.
ok so two things.

1. its nice to know that someone else did the modular to conventional swap thing cuz thats what they had laying around, and
2. if it is the TOB, thats gonna cause the symptoms i said correct?

ok so i pulled the tranny, talked to my dodge dealership, and he said put the modular clutch back in and see what happens. well i did that and it SEEMED to line up and go back together, but it seems like every bolt i try to put in corssthreads. SO. how am i to be certain that i have everything lined up? i mean the trans mount went back on like a dream, the cv axles are decent and everything else looks tight EXCEPT for all the bolts that go thru the bellhousing. SO, any tips?
