Synthetic gear lubricant for manual trans?
Does anyone know if switching over to a synthetic gear lubricant for the manual in my 95 SOHC would be an issue? I have traditionally done this with my other cars with good results but I am unfamiliar with domestic manuals, i.e. what is the stock fluid weight etc... Any input is always appreciated.

Dont trust the dealer...Look away...
Oh well, let me know what those rackateers have to say anyway, probably something along the lines of ----"The OEM fluid in your tranmission has special chemicals and properties (bullsh*t) that allow it to function better (bullsh*t) than it would with aftermarket synthetic fluid (bullsh*t) and it only costs five times as much at our parts counter..."---
Fight the power!...but let me know what they say-
Thanx

My Local Dodge Dealership is wanting to call Mopar on Monday and get there suggestion. My local dealership knows I race my Neon and rather ask Mopar for suggestions then to give me a cookie cutter response that my not meet my needs!
Let you know what I find out on Monday.

My Local Dealer is not like your typical dealer - They are going to contact Mopar Monday and ask them what is being run in there race cars and why - My Dealer know I race - the guys in the shop said they have seen everything from Amsoil to Purple stuff - they said the Amsoil is not bad - the techs suggest not to use the Delo in the auto's they had one that came in all gunked (SP?) up.

The factory service manual says to use the Mopar Transaxle Lubricant. It also says in bold letters to never use ATF.
The dealership will tell you to use ATF (by their chart) in the NVT-350. But they will tell you to use the Mopar fluid in the exact same tranny on the PT cruiser. Odd...
I stick with the Mopar fluid and have never had problems. How often do you change your tranny fluid anyways? I've done it twice in 235,000 miles - both for clutch replacements.
Best of luck!

It isnt an issue of neccesity, I did so previously at the suggestion of an older racer on my Honda and my Toyota MR2 5spd.'s. In both cases there was a very noticable increase in transmission performance, just want to make sure it would not be an issue in the Neon.

My 98 neon calls for atf+4, thats what the owners manual says. I just change the clutch and replaced the fluid about 2 months ago and thats what I used and it is fine.
