Can you get the serial number? I think if so someone on here or neons.org can look i up and see if its sohc or dohc. SOHC/DOHC have different timings and it can cause it to run bad. My one pcm I bought from a guy online was not firing in cylinder #3, just a random problem with the pcm so it could also just be a bad pcm in general but do you have any jy's to get a DOHC PCM?

If its an atx, I can probably get you a DOHC PCM.

easy to tell just fire her up and hit rev her to the limiter if its a 5spd the dohc should rev to 7200 if its lower then that you still have the sohc pcm... but if your auto... then you won't be able to tell cause the auto dohc has the same limit as the sohc autos

Yeah I can get the serial number.. Im sure it has to be the PCM because two of the cyls arent firing hence causing my car to shake like crazy. The car is auto. I went to the wreckers today with my buddy and we looked at a DOHC pcm and it looked way bigger and had two ports. So if it is the PCM I can get one from the wrecker and should I get all the harnessing too? Whats this job gonna be like? Thanks.

Edit : I have already reset the timing belt (Brand new) new cam sensor and coil pack, The timing was off because the previous owner had a new water pump installed and the Canadian tire mechanic forgot to pull out the tensioner pin which was holding the tiny piston.. lol good thing I thought it was timing first. I have great compression 150 psi engine only has 40k on it

as long as the computer is from the same year it should be a direct swap... if its from a different year you may have issues...

Ran a 97 DOHC computer in my 98 SOHC for 5 years with no problems. All that matters is if the PCM is from a car with the same transmission as yours...Manual to Manual & Auto to Auto because of the minor details such as torque converter lock up & reverse lights & so on, probably isn't such a big deal if you're using a manual with a ATX pcm but a manual PCM on a ATX will cause loss of TC lock up. Ran my SOHC up to like 7,000 Rpm (so my tach said, some dash tachs aren't perfectly accurate) with that comp and never had one issue...even got 38mpg with it & 5 whp gain. I never hit the rev limiter on it, 7,000 was enough for me.

95 & 96 pcms are animals pretty much of their own. The 97 to 99 are pretty standardized.
