Default loud squeaking noise

i have a 98 dodge neon and when i start it up there is a extremely loud squeaking noise. This happens almost every time i start up the car and it will progressively get louder and then just stop. This also happens while im driving then slow down to a light or to turn. Then it will get louder as i speed up and stop again. Worse when cold and while raining. Anyone know whats wrong and how to fix it?

Have you checked your belts and brakes recently?

NO>>>>>Don't put that crap on your belts! Tighten it or get a new one.

If you have checked the tension for the belts and they are where they should be,then you need to start looking at the components that the belts are attached too. You could have a bearing going bad in the power steering pump, AC clutch (AC comes on when defrost is on), or alternator that is making the noise.

Yeah I have this problem too. Just when I first start the car, and when it is wet outside....it sounds as if the engine is squeaking. It disappears shortly after the car is warmed up. The squeaking speeds up when I rev the engine. I'm pretty sure it's not the PS/AC belt.
