Default 1997 DOHC Neon died while driving

Like the title says. I was driving then the engine shut off. Tried restarting and it turns over, I can hear the the fuel pump pump. Just doesn't fire at all. I am assuming there isnt spark. I switched out the cam position sensor hoping for some good luck. Not so much. The timing belt is still there, i peeked in the access on the cover. I tried spraying some starting fluid in the TB but that didn't seem to work either.

I had somethin similar like that happen to my 96 neon. After looking through everything it ended up bein as simple as the ignition fuse not bein in all the way. Runs just fine now.

where would that be located? the only other thing i can think of is the crank position sensor. I checked the fuse box under the hood all were fine...

Its in your regular fusebox next to the driver side door. Theres a little panel u pull off and on the back of that panel it tells ya where the ignition fuse is. Hopefully this helps. It could be the cps but i dont think it would start to begin with if it was that but i could be wrong

My buddy had this happen to his 99 bonneville and it happened to be his battery cables to the terminals. His is sidemounted tho and he had a stripped thread. 1st gen neons are top mounted( thus harder for something like that to happen) but its another thing to look at if ya havent yet. Something like this could be a lot of things however it sounds like its something electrical if it turns over and the fuel pump is registering.

Have the battery checked first.

What are the symptoms? Does the car start up now? Do you hear a buzz from the fuel pump before trying to start the car?

Do the easy stuff before turning it over to a garage.

make sure the plugs, wires, and coil are good... thats your spark... battery is good to check, same with alternator, but spark are confined to certin things... are you sure it isnt fuel delivery????

The plugs and wires are new. The coil as well. It isnt fuel delivery, the car wouldnt even sputter even when i shot some starter fluid in it while cranking it over. The battery is fine as well.. Starting to look like maybe it is the timing belt... Since it died , i noticed it is turning over quicker than it used too...*crosses fingers* I hope it isnt tho, i cant afford a new top end ..
