96 SOHC removal
i have 96' SOHC and i was wondering if any of the accessories have to be removed from the front of the motor in order to have enough clearence in order to seperate the clutch assembly from the crank or if ill neeed to remove the mtx in the process too so far its semed to be a very straighgtforward remove& reinstall it just seems to have only about 2-3 inces of clearence between the strut towers with all the accessories on the front of the motor also i was wondering if there is any different wirin on the "plymouth"neons v. the dodge neons or if they were the same exact setup as i would think
im actually replacing the motor since i believe i spun a main bearing the other day i was just tryin to figure out if i will need to support the tranny once the motor is out and if any of the accesorys need to be removed from the front of the engine to get it out so as theres enough room to pull it out what i was gonna try was unboltin the clutch assembly from the flywheel and see if that would allow the motor and tranny to seperate enough to be able to slide the motor straight out also i cant seem to get the clip apart that holds the oil sending unit wires in also thanx casper
Definitely agree on that. Pulling just the tranny is easy enough without touching the motor. But I wouldn't leave the tranny in while pulling the motor...
You'll have to tilt the passenger side of the motor up and the driver's side down a little to get it out if coming out the top. Removing the intake manifold, battery tray, rad and condenser, and coolant overflow tank will give you a little more play room. Obviously the axles, exhaust manifold, shift cables, and a ton of electrical connectors will have to be undone.

so it seems that i will be droppin the half shafts and pullin the tranny too i already have the maze of wiring disconnected i was wonderin if any one would know if theres anydifference in the dodge and plymouth wiring as the replacement come from a plymout neon for what thats worthbut its off to the garage and turn some more wrenches
Dodge and Plymouth Neons are identical in every way, except for badging and a couple of letters in the VIN. There may be some differences from year-to-year though. Easy enough to snip and swap connectors if needed though.

since ive b een draggin my feet(workin on something that will actually pay somethin ) and have yet to actually start droppin my half shafts i was wonderin what would be the simpliest/quickest way to drop em im a big fan of workin smarter not harder and also how the hell does the oil sending unit on the back of the block disconnect im bout ready to say screw savin all the special clips and destroy it due to the irriatation it has given me and thanks for that tidbit there radar
