Default New to the Neon world

Hello all, New to the neon world. I just bought a 1998 Dodge neon SOHC 5speed 4door. Found this site and have already started modding. V6 CAI,8mm wires, and a pioneer cd,500 watt amp, alpine 10. Got some Q?

1. I have a tapping? sound after 3500rpm. I really don't think its a lifter cause it would always be tapping right? It also passed California smog the other day.Kinda hard to drive it under 3500rpm when there is no power tell 4000rmps.

2. Im looking into building a 2.0 dohc or is it better to just go 2.4?

1. Tapping sound could be an exhaust leak. Take a close look at it.
2. Depends on what you want out of the motor. 2.4 and 2.0 put out the same HP, but the 2.4 gives you more torque but is much more work to install and maintain.

well I looked at it today. I don't see a gasket from the head to the exhaust manifold. Should I be able to see it? or feel one. I dont have the stock air box anymore. Also I was checking my vin to see what model I had and it said I have a Sohc not the Dohc that's in it. So maybe someone did a swap? Dont know. Does the sohc muffler look diff from the dohc one? just seeing how fare things were changed.

Some came from the factory without a gasket but putting on a gasket would be safest. Check for cracks in the exhaust manifold could be the leak. Some sohc came with dohc because they ran out of sohc motors so they just popped them in or were upgraded. Dohc muffler has 2 pipes coming out of it and sohc only has one.

I dont know much about telling the difference between computers. I guess you could contact a chrysler dealer with your vin # and they could tell you
