Default 97 Plymouth neon not starting

I bought a 97 Plymouth Neon. 2 Door, 2.0 DOHC. 300kms From out of town .
I went to drive it, only got 100 kms out of the city (To Home).
The car temp went up the temp gauge, and the Speedometer went to 0.
Once in awhile it would jump up but then back to 0 again. Then I felt something
weird, like lose some power. So I pulled over off the Highway to a Service Station
And it stalled. Wouldn;t start up,I seen some oil under the car but not to much.
Just a few drops. When it first stalled, thats when it started to steam. When it
cooled down, I tried to start it. Not even a turn over. BUT it made a clicking
noise. The gauges started to jump around the gas and temp. Also when I tried to start it
the lights in the car went dim. The radio lights and the head lights went out. BUT when I played
with the key, the lights and gauges started working. when i starting it would do the
same thing. Little click noise was still there. So I had to tow it home. i tried it the next day and nothin the same thing, a week later
I tried it, for something to do and It started right up.i dont wont to drive it to i fix the problem.the car has a 180 000 kms on it.

If anyone has this kind of problem please email me
I would like to get the car on the road.

Are you losing oil? Where was it steaming? Are there any codes?

Aside from the oil and steam, I would guess it was an electrical issue, probably the alternator and/or really bad connections on the battery.

could it be w/ the ecu harness??? Is it canadian mfg. This is off track but my sisters old taurus did the same thing and when I pulled it apart I coulda killed the ford engineers.....Her car was mfgd in Canada and instead of split wires to the harness they run all of em together separate and cost over 1000 dollars to find one if there was. I doubt that would be the case here but it could cause things to go haywire...For overheating I just went around the fan relay and wired it directly in my 95 since the ecu controls it...and if the fan is dead could be the relay causing it. Also the dash in my car had a shorted cluster that was causing my random paranormal -like events w/ the dash and dimming lights. You never know until you dig in.....good luck

Sounds like you could have an oil leak and a bad PCM. Thats just a guess, but with all of those problems at once, its a good start.

so i started to look for the problems, i put a couple good thick grounds on it and just click click ....got a new battery new posative wire and new battery post connections. i put the battiery test on and it says 12 volts and when the key is turn to start the tester says 8 volts. i put a power booster on and it starts the altanator is good got it tested the codes say 12 & 55 so that just sayin that direct battery input to pcm was disconnected 55 is end of error messages no errors were found when i pulled the starter out i removed the rad and it looks like i need a new rad... i clean the starter and the motor where the starter goes still click click so i it could be the pcm or the starter i guess or some posative wire grounding out.
