Even sealed batteries vent gases, just an FYI. Go with a dry cell and there no worries. You can even mount them upside down if you like.
but we were talking about a sealed box not a sealed battery

you would need to vent outside somehow wouldnt you? otherwise you could get a hydrogen buildup in the trunk.

That's what I would think, but apparently they are not doing that.

i dunno, i would feel alot more comfortable venting it out the bottom of the trunk. My new car has the battery in the trunk and its vented right from the factory to under the spare tire carrier.
