Default Battery Relocation

How should I go about relocating my battery to the trunk? What gauge wire should I use? How should I mount it? Any special batteries that I could/should use? Any special advice?

Shops like Summit and Jegs sell battery relocation kits if thats a help. They have a box, hold downs and the cable. The price vairies with the quality. Is it going to be like SCCA legal? You might want to get a rule book.

Why do you want to relocate the battery?

Anyway, go to a boat store and get a battery box, 0 or 4 gauge wire, and I'd recommend a dry cell battery (no maintenance) or make sure you vent your battery somehow. Ground it to bare metal, not painted metal.

If you just want extra space or a lighter battery, get a tractor battery.

I want to relocate the battery to the trunk so I can make a cold air intake to go in the place of the battery. Also, I'm going to be competing in SPL competitions and want the battery as close as possible to my capacitors and amps. I may even buy a couple more batteries. I also have seen a Powermaster alternator that puts out 170 amps, I thinking about buying that little guy too.

You don't have to do that...see pic below.

Modern Performance and Howell used to sell them, but are now discontinued. You have to get one used or make your own 3.0L intake. You just have to cut the stock battery tray a little bit.

go to walmart and buy a marine battery box. also for best results buy the next up size battery for you car. I have heard a lot of bad things about the dry cells in neons. also at walmart get a 2 or 4 gauge set of jumper cables, andcut of the clamps off run it from the trunk to the fron throught the fire wall and attach it to the starter and pdc. put on some new batt clamps and ur done. took me an hour. hope this helps...

lot of times you can see a big voltage drop with long batt leads. unless you want to pay top $$ for top of the line parts it's cheaper to go with the bigger batt. good luck.
