succesful battery relocation to the trunk
I have succesfully relocated my batter to the trunk of my 98 neon. This has opened up alot of free space under the hood for a CAI or a short ram intake. I used 4 ga. (I personally am MECP and I checked with an old boss of mine who is MECP master to make sure 4 ga. was going to work o.k.) wire and ran it from the fuse box under the hood to the drivers side rear of the trunk. I used a inline fuse fusing it at 60 amps (I thought that would be sufficient due to the largest fuse in the car is 40 amp). I then bought a ground wire from the local auto parts store. All of the wires coming off the ground from under the hood were grounded elsewhere and it seems to work just fine. Starts up perfectly. the wire was ran through the firewall by the brake master cylinder/booster, by the hood release, under the floor carpet and up into the trunk where I cut a hole in the carpet for the exit of the wire. I also bought new termilnals for the battery. Overall it took my about 3-4 hours and some cursing but, was VERY MUCH worth it. Now I have ample room for my intake.

Well everyone I am trying REALLY hard to find a free web hosting site so if you have any idea's please let me know. I fashioned my own ghetto style of intake but, it works well. As far as my battery and fuse box... the battery is held down using the car, the original hold down strap, and some VERY thick zip ties for added protection, the fuse box is again zip tied at both sides to area's inside the engine bay that do not heat up and keep the fuse box steady. I used the fuse boxes when installing my fog lights so that they would not need a switch and would be on whenever my headlamps are on so I need the underhood fuse box to be as stead fast as they get after major surgery. Any other ?'s feel free to ask and I am going to try really hard to get the pics up on a site this A.M. I have got a big job with the head gasket and an outer tie rod to deal with today. B.T.W. "PB" penetrant IS THE SH*T! it got a bolt on my brake caliper (that I thought was COMPLETELY froze up) broken and I was able to change out the pads. Use it. Love it. Sleep with it.
