Default Engine Rebuild question...

Ok well i got to thinking today after talking with some of my Honda friends that called my Neon slow... and well i was going to be rebuilding my engine anyways when it finally dies...but i was just going to replace everything with OEM stock stuff...but then i got to thinking that I want my car to be stock but yet i'm getting a flowmaster exhaust...so then i thought it looks stock but doesn't sound nor runs like stock...and no one would know...so i think i'll rebuild it with better stuff (performance cam, valves and so on) but the problem is that i know nothing about rebuilding one of these things with aftermarket performance stuff...like what brands are good for the Neon and what stuff is good and so on. so any suggestions on what brands i should use for what? its a SOHC out of a 95 and it would be a total rebuild from the ground up.

if your wanting not to spend alot of money..then you disregard this post.....but what i would do if i had the money would be
JE pistons
Eagle connectiong rods
crane valve springs
crane cams
bore it out
and whatever else you wanna replace....the thing is that if you go this route, your gonna spend about as much as goin out and buying a 98 r/t...but thats just up to you

hmmm...would it be possible to take internals from a DOHC and put them in a SOHC? minus the extra Cam.... and if so would it give any added performance? or would it be amost the same as the SOHC since it wouldn't have the extra Cam.... i guess it would be more like the bottom end being exchanged....

and i know you're probably asking...why not just put the DOHC in... and to answer that is because i want it to look stock on the exterior...and having 2 Cams... would not allow it to look stock lol...

Here are some rebuild kits from Modern that can give you an idea on price...

You can use the DOHC pistons in your SOHC and it will bump your compression up a bit. You can't use the DOHC cam, besides you have the better 95 cam already.

No benefit from that though.

cause it came with a SOHC...and i would know that its not a SOHC lol...but now i'm thinking just putting in a DOHC and rebuilding the SOHC until it comes time to have it back to its original shape from the factory (aka when i have enough money to repair everything)

if you really wanted to go the original route....you could always put a dohc in there and then hold onto the sohc.....neons arent like muscle cars....if its not original, it doesnt matter......besides if you rebuild the motor with aftermarket parts, your gonna be just as far away from original as putting in a dohc.....besides a dohc is alot of fun
