Tired of Neon Drivers bashing on Hondas.
I like that the neon gets kind of a bad wrap, keeps the price down for the rest of us when we want our 2nd or 3rd one! Every car will have it's problems and every car isn't built perfect.
But all of you guys have 5 sp. I have an auto. You don't have to face a lot of problem that I have. Just give you an example. This morning I go out an get a cup of coffee and when I get back home, I cannot get my key out. I have to wait for about a minute so that the car sensor could sense it is in "P" before I could get the key out. And the tranny is build badly. I agree that every car is not make perfect. I just don't understand why they don't keep improve it and instead, they start from the beginning. I do believe that Honda, and Toyota got the good rep because they keep their design and keep improve the existing model. Dodge, instead, start from the beginning when they get something good going on in here. You will make mistake when you design a car, but the 2nd gen Neon is so much better than the first. Even my 98 neon is better than the 95, at least I don't have the famous head gasket problem. It take time to make those adjustment and by the time things going well, they call it quit. Can you imagine a 3rd or 4th gen neon will perform like? They build a 5.3 sec car in the 2nd gen. I mean when Civic first come out back in the early 80's, no one wants it. It took them all those time to build the Civic like it is today. But look at the neon, They stop at 10 year. That is what I don't understand. It is not just for Neon, most of the American car are the same way, they may share the same name, but the complety redesign it all the time. Just an through, if you don't like it, don't be mad at me.

So, you tell me Neon is the same as a Honda? Give me a break.... As I said, It mind run with or even faster than an Civic Si, but how many parts would fall apart after the run? Turbo for Neon? The brake don't have good stopping power when it is stock, good luck if you put a Turbo in. I need my car to be reliable, this is the most I ask for. And neon fail to deliever that. I believe that Neon could run till 200,000, but just how much work have to get done? My friend have a stock Civic and it had 170,000 miles on it and it did not give him as much problem as I had with my Neon. So it is a CHEAPER car for a reason.

.and the whole transmition is acting up now.
This too is another example of someone that has had tons of trouble with their Neon, but for every one with these kinds of troubles with them there are thousands with great experiences. The only problems I had with my '99 R/T were the battery that went south, which was the original, and the power steering belt that came off after hitting the rev limiter. The Neon was built as a utilitarian car for bottom dollar, which is why there very common with rental car places, and they are built to last and then be tossed away when they get too old. The Neons dominated in class in SCCA racing, so much so that they allowed the other cars to modify to keep up and stand a chance, kinda like NASCAR did to the winged warriors in stock car racing where they forced Dodge/Plymouth to either use a far smaller engine and keep the body or scrap the body and keep the Hemi.
Unless you've got a '98 Neon that has the MLS head gasket, then you still run the risk of blowing the head gasket. They didn't start putting the MLS head gasket in from the factory until the mid-'99 model year, so your still at risk.
