A rebuilt one would probably cost more than a used one from the junkyard.

Hey you can check out what the tranny fluid & filter look like, or bring it to a shop and have them check it. If your fluid and filter look old and grungy it might help to change them. Also listen to Das and Spud about not manually shifting your auto, it will last a lot longer without excess shifts.

idiot-proff? the engineers are the idiots. transmission should not get stuck in gears when you shift by the book, from dead stop, select gear.

yesterday they called me to tell insurance went up by $15/mo. they said neons and civics are the worst when it comes to body injury claims. i wonder...

 

i still think its odd that i was driving mine normally(for once) and now it is stuck in 4th gear......you can shift through all the gears and hear them all lock in....but its always in 4th.....even the shifter is in neutral and moves freely, its still in 4th...
when i was driving it home i could go through all the gears including reverse while doin about 40mph

 

I don't see how an original tranny with over 350,000 miles and still shifting smoothyl is a badly engineered transmission. I have seen alot of ATX's with over this amount of miles on the original tranny.

 

i still think the auto's are really good tranny's.....ive beaten the **** out of my fare share of them without any problems
