Default axle problems?

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with a 95 neon sohc. I have a clicking sound coming from the left front that is speed dependant. Also the automatic trans is starting to leak fluid. I suspect the cv joint is bad, but could this also damage the seal that goes in the transmission?

thanks

Clicking noises can be CV joints, tie rods, strut mounts and so on.

let me see if i can explain it better. Driving down the road under load I get a rythmic clicking, popping sound from the front left, when I let off the gas sound changes to more of a grinding noise. The clicking is totally speed dependant.

What concerns me though is that tranny is starting to leak fluid quite a bit, and Ido believethe cv joint is bad but could cause the trans seal to go out as well.

Does the noise change when you're turning left or right?

Isn't that because the transaxle end of the axle has spiralling grooves and may require twisting to slide in all the way? That and the c-clip...

well i got the car up on jackstandsand ran the tranny, the sound is definetly coming from the transmission under what looks like the cover for the differential. also the cover has been braze welded and that is where the fluid has been coming out, soooooo....it looks like someone has worked on it in the past for something. i bought this car used for my daughter for college so i have a little time to get it fixed before school starts.i guess my next question is what's involved in changing the differential and can it be done in the car/ i'm going now to take some pics and i'lltry to get them posted.thanks

May want to get a FSM for the job, I seriously doubt a Haynes has that kind of stuff in it.
